Set in the Roman city of Herculaneum just before it was destroyed in the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius, this action-packed tale follows a young gladiator in his quest to overthrow the evil emperor and his band of corrupt nobles.

JOURNEY TO THE BEGINNING OF TIME (1955/66)
Originally a Czech film made in 1955, it was released in the U.S. in 1966. The plot follows four boys drifting down a river of time and encountering dinosaurs and other beasts of the prehistoric past. Dubbed in English, this is a very hard to find film.
LES AMOURS D’ HERCULE (The Loves Of Hercules) (1960)
This Italian-French production is widescreen and in FRENCH LANGUAGE ONLY. Muscleman Mickey Hargitay plays Hercules, fighting off the Cyclops, the Hydra, and the Incredible Forest Of The Tree-Men. He is also passionate about co-star JAYNE MANSFIELD (who had a brief marriage with Hargitay in real life).

ROLAND THE MIGHTY (1956)
Charlemagne and saracen Agramante are at war. Although the Franks are outnumbered by their enemies they succeed in containing them in the Pyrenean foothills. A truce is signed between the two sides, during which Agramante treacherously sends Angélique, a beautiful seductress of his retinue,to the paladin camp.
While traveling through the kingdom of Sulom, Samson is arrested and finds that the queen no longer reigns and that a power-mad warlord and his army of mercenaries now control the kingdom. Samson teams up with some of his one-time adversaries to battle the usurper and restore the rightful queen to power.

Mark Forest never looked better then in this lavish gladiator story. Maciste schemes against Caesar to free a group of Christians whom the emperor plans to feed to the lions. Above average peplum with some lovely color photography, nice sets, and well staged battle scenes…this one obviously had a bigger budget then most films of its kind.
